When You Pray (Week 4 Recap-September 26, 2023)

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” Hebrews 13:8

God is ….

Eternal: exists outside of time.

Holy: perfect, pure and without sin

Infinite: no limits in His person of His power

Incomprehensible: beyond our understanding

Omnipresent: fully present everywhere

Omniscient: knows everything past, present, future, all things macro and micro

Self existent: depends on nothing

A few years ago, I was on a vacation with longtime friends. Every morning with coffee in hand, we would share our hearts and daily lives. One of my friends was going through a difficult time. She was seeking… needing counsel, needing wisdom and needing direction. In her quest to find answers she went to a psychic. As she was sharing her story, an uneasiness came over me. I sat quietly and listened. I struggled on how to react to her story. She was innocent in her pursuit for finding answers and yet I knew she was looking in the wrong place. How do I share what I have learned from the bible with a loving heart, even though no one asked my opinion? I needed wisdom…

“Do not let your people practice fortune telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord,”

Deuteronomy 18:10-12

Everyone is seeking direction, counsel and wisdom. That is a common practice as we are limited in our abilities. We are not able to know all things, see all things and understand all things. When difficult circumstances arise, we quickly realize our neediness. Where we go and who we seek wisdom from is a crucial question.

I recently heard a story of a police officer who was dispatched to a child abduction case. Before the police officer arrived on the scene, he intentionally pulled over and prayed. He prayed, “Lord, you know where this kid is. Can you tell me? Show me where this he is. Do you still do that? Is that real and if it is, how would I know?” This man turned to God and asked Him for wisdom and direction. I love how innocent and heart felt his prayer was. He wasn’t sure what to expect from God but he asked. After he prayed, a car passed his cruiser. All of the sudden the police officer felt dramatically sick to his stomach. It was so profound he knew instantly God was speaking. He quickly connected the dots and knew there was something evil about the car. Immediately the police officer pulled him over. He searched the car and found nothing. Then he asked the driver to open up his trunk. When the man opened it up, there laying in the trunk was the missing child.

This story is unreal and gave me chills. All I could do after hearing this miraculous story was to praise God! God is amazing! He is above all things, in all things and holds all things. God is beyond our comprehension, we simply cannot understand all of His ways. He is everywhere, all of the time. He holds all wisdom and is eager to give us counsel. The question isn’t whether He is able, rather, why aren’t we seeking and asking Him?

For some of us, it might be time for a break up. Breaking up from past agreements that we have once believed. Breaking up from old patterns where God wasn’t the source. As we turn towards Him, God is eager to answer with open arms.

xoxo,

K
